There are few moments during the day when the lighting is just right, in fact, a few moments that total about 2 hours in a 24 hour day. You have to work to get an image to be over or under exposed and instead, images appear to glow this glorious golden light. Welcome to The Golden Hour. We photog’s love us some golden hour don’t we?

In honor of that bright fiery ball in the sky that gifts us with these golden images this weeks theme is going to force you to step outside and enjoy these moments because ONLY NEW IMAGES will be accepted. Go get some fresh air, pull the car over on the drive home from work, wake up earlier to breath the new day before most and snap some beauties and tag your golden hour shots to #AE_Theme_GoldenHour. Of course, as always, ALL platforms are welcome.

As much as I like the way a photography captures the real moment, what was there just then, I equally love the way I can alter a photography and make it a farytale. This is the castle in Disney World Florida. I made it my version of Winterfell. Those that watch Game of Thrones will know where I got the inspiration.

Description
I like fantasy. I like reality too. I love mixing them both in my everydays. It can make a grey day a rainbow. And sometimes one really could wish one was somewhere else. If one cant edit the day, at least one can edit a picture and make it the perfect place. My imagination has always been strong, from I was a child and still is. I think its what I like most about myself, and I never been afraid to let my mind wander and I hold on to impossible dreams. As a child I would draw alot, I was never bored - i had creayons and paper and could draw what ever was on my mind. Mobile arts lets me take it further.

Editing process
Like I said in the intro, this is the Castle in Disney World Florida. Its shot in the evening, and it mirrors in the water around. I took the pic into Handy Photo first, to use magic crop, as I needed to make it square. Magic crop lets you copy the picture to make it wider on the side or top. Works well if its not too much in the picturesides.
Then the picture was taken into Photo Editor. I used swap, to alter the colors. Then the dark around the castle became white. Next step was Snapseed, where I took down saturation to zero, and put on a vintage filter, giving it light blue. Last step was again in Handy Photo, where I added an icefilter from textures for a Winterfell-feeling.

In all the steps there is a bit of tweeking, trying out how much of the filters I like to add. I think one just knows when one do this whats right for the picture, and whats right for oneself that day. Today my apps let me make my Winterfell.

Sometimes inspiration comes unexpectedly and at precisely the right moment. Imagine returning from a walk where you took a ton of photos, only to scroll through and not see anything you feel is any good. I found myself in this exact situation recently. While walking around the downtown area of my city, I had seen this older gentleman walking alone across the street and took a shot hoping to catch that lonely feeling. While looking through my shot at home later on, I was a bit disappointed. The shot ended up being too far away, and I was about to hit the delete button. Then, my youngest daughter started talking about our trip to the zoo the week before. The lightbulb turned on, the clouds parted, the choir of angels sang, and the crazy silly stuff began.

I took this photo on a Sunday during a walk with my family. The light was just beautiful and the gate to the big meadow caught my eye right away. It was nicely framed by tall trees and the whole scenery had something magic. Wind in the trees, the singing birds, and the lush vegetation.

Editing process

First I cropped the pic to 16x9 in Snapseed. Then I tuned it a little. Ambience down, saturation down, white balance down. I added a vintage filter and saved the image. I opened it in Photo Editor and changed the color curves a little bit. Then I added a lomo effect and put it as low as possible. I saved the pic and used square it for the white frame. I opened it in Instagram to add the “Rise” filter. As a last step i put down the saturation and white balance in Snapseed.

Tumblr Submission by Bennett Vazquez

This week’s theme may make some of you sweat. Some of you because this is a genre you dig so hard it hurts and you’re just excited, some because the thought of snapping pics of strangers in their “natural habitat” makes you nervous. Don’t worry, getting caught is part of the fun and can also prove to be a great workout if you have to run away. ;) I kid I kid! Street photography, in its essence, is capturing people and scenes as they unfold in their true form. There is no posing, often times you go unnoticed and the goal is to capture people living their lives, raw and unmanufactured in anyway. It’s not just a portrait, it’s the total context of the scene around them as it unfolds. If you’ve never shot this type of photograph before, test yourself this week and step out of your comfort zone. It’s helpful to have your phone in your hand, ALWAYS, and the camera app already open and ready to go because these moments pass in the blink of an eye. Enjoy, capturing the hustle and bustle around you and tag your street images (new or old) with #AE_Theme_StreetShots for a chance to be featured next week. **all platforms welcome**

Sometimes the right environment demands a “selfie”, not because I love taking pictures of myself of course but because at times there is just no one else available to be a subject.

Where I work we have alot of various un-inhabited unit space many unfinished with exposed walls and iron frames. This particular room considering it’s size has only two small windows as its light source. Perfect for lighting a subject (me) while creating atmospheric depth of field in the background. I had this image idea in my head as the steal frames either side I felt would help provide a frame in which the subject (again me) would sit.

As for the edit I only used Snapseed here to improve contrast and added some scratches and faded light leaks. Though mobile photography can have its limits one aspect I do find it excels at is the angles and point of view you can achieve placing the phone so low to the ground which is exactly what I done here. Don’t limit yourself to bathroom mirror selfies, most phones have a timer mode, I’m forever using mine.

I took this shot in downtown Manhattan in the heart of the financial district. I was lucky enough to get this shot since the day was so gloomy that I figured I wouldn’t get any good shots. To actually get to the location where I shot the picture you had to cross a chained off area but if I was quick enough and steady enough I knew I would get a great corner shot. I was quite pleased with the way the picture came out. Specially the very center of it where it almost seems to vanish.

Title: “Ride where dreams can take you”

When you daydream, what crosses your mind? Is it in color? Do the scenes flow by like a movie script? Do you take action to make that positive dream a reality? Train rides are short bursts of energy surrounding people with sparks of life energy. On this day I froze a piece of time in pixels and used my energy to create a virtual dream reality.

It’s with great pleasure to announce that Hannah has joined the Android Editors team! Hannah is a documentary photographer and joined Instagram the day it was available for Android devices. She began producing a series of photos called #ReadingInTransit , an ongoing mobile photography series featuring people on public transport who enjoyed reading printed materials rather than staring at their mobile devices.

Over time, overlays came into the picture, and she began experimenting with creative edits using the free overlay packs produced by other Instagram users. She likes to think of her feed as consistently inconsistent - showing everything from the simple beauty of minimal monochrome edits, to experimental technicolored street and travel photography.

Heart vine reflection. Heart vines on a watery mirror against the sunset light reflected on another mirror to bounce on the objects. The rainy effect is from a sprinkler.

I’d be willing to bet that a flower is something that appears in photographs more than anything else. Due to the fact that it is such a popular subject, requires a photographer to be highly creative when incorporating a flower into their images in order to make it stand out. It could be a close-up macro shot, a flower in a child’s hand, a well thought out still life, or any of the absolutely endless ways to use a flower in your shots. Initially this may seem like an “easy” theme to take on, but I beg to differ. I find it extremely challenging to photograph a flower and not feel like it’s “been done” a million times over. This week tag your images #AE_Theme_Flower and show us how far you can push your creativity!!

**ALL PLATFORMS WELCOME**

Thanks for your participation and keep tagging #DroidEdit

I have always been intrigued by portraits, especially the ones printed in magazines/newspapers. The eyes, ears, wrinkles..They all add a very magical feel to the face giving us a peek into the person’s life.

We tend to start contemplating about the person’s journey, what circumstances could have caused the formation of wrinkles, etc. All my portraits are straight out of street. They are from the local market, neighbourhood or my travels.

I usually keep my eyes roving to find a catchy face. I have observed that taking portraits is very spontaneous since a particular expression/mood lasts only for a few moments. I never ask for any permission for taking a pic. It is always a purely impromptu decision. Its always sort of, point, shoot and move on.
